Head nuts, washers and torque.

The new head nut washers arrived from OO Racing today, so I was able to torque the head down properly. It might seem a bit OTT to order the correct washers, instead of just fitting any old washer, but the way I look at it is that Honda used specially thick washers and a copper one for the bottom left stud (the oil feed), and they seem to know what they are doing. I’m guessing the thick washers are designed to ensure the load is spread evenly. The Lifan engine has 7mm studs unlike the Cub90’s 6mm, so I do them up to a higher torque. After initial tightening by hand I then tighten the nuts to 9lbf ft (the top limit for a Cub90) and then tighten them further to 14.5 lbf ft which is the bottom limit for a C90ZZ which also has larger studs. I’m not sure whether this is the correct thing to do, but it works for me. :)
