Having read all the thoughts here IMO A combination of Boo's and Saltysnax diagnosis are the key to solving the cause of this failure in this particular instance Danny. All I would add is that once you have adjusted the chain at its tightest point you sit on the bike hence applying your full weight so the suspension deflects as this alters the chain tension and it is in this state that you need to take the final chain adjustment measurements
