What car model and year is it? Unless it's some hyper-performance sports monster, I would be very surprised if semi-synthetic would do any harm. Does the handbook specifically bar other than synthetic? I would have a look at Halford's instore list and see what they recommend. I have always found their oil (made by Comma, I believe) perfectly ok at a fairly reasonable price.
