OT synthetic car oil

My car is supposed to be filled with fully synth. Its bloomin expensive. Would asda semi-synth do any harm. ? Car been incontinent for the last year. Taken it back for the third time today and mechanic says they are being supplied with crap filters. The shell to screw on bit is weeping. He's put another make on and it seems fine. Regards. Bob.
