From experience working in this field, such undeclared modifications will come to light following an incident of sufficient magnitude for example one involving serious, possibly life changing or fatal injury. As a department it is standard practise for us to look for and make note of any modification be it a simple obbvious change of exhaust/silencer to engine re-mapping and over bores etc, my work laptop PC has the software to identify this and is routinely connected to everything where possible and where damage & circumstances or allegations dictate engine management ECU's are removed for remote testing by specialists. We also involve vehicle and component manufacturers where necessary. We routinely look for de-restriction of mopeds and 33bhp restricted license holders machines. Over the 23 years I've been doing it I have had quite a few instances where I've stripped engines and measured up swept volumes, we're talking cars here too.

There have also been a few times where Traffic officers or even local bobbies have not been too happy with a bike or car they have stopped just on a routine pull (maybe it was making too good headway for what it is purports to be for instance) and they have asked us to do the biz, which we have done on occasion providing we have the time.

What I don't want is for folk here to think I am a right twat here in explaining the lengths that are gone to in post-collision vehicle examination but what you have got to remember is that insurance companies are always looking for a way out of paying full compensation and so passing on the blame for negligence on to their insured (in some cases they will refute liability altogether) hence they will employ consultant engineers who will do the same as I do and if they find somthing I've missed then I look a right fool. I get paid to do a job as a public service and provide evidence for prosecution, if deemed to be in the public interest also the coroner and assist with closure for a families loss or whatever. There is potential for fraud charges to be brought, failure to notify correct registration, possibly dangerous parts / unroadworthy vehicle and definately riding/driving without insurance.

At the end of the day there is quite a good chance that undeclared modifications will go undiscovered by the authorities forever.......but on the other hand there is also a small but none the less very real possibility that they will.....the choice is yours! :|

Overall please, please remember that what I do at work, stays very much at work! I don't bring it home with me! or out into my social life! So what goes on when I'm out on a bimble or a meet or whatever, stays there! I aint seen nothing! if you know what I mean! :)

Ride safe

Ady :)
