Yup, they won't resist a hammer and chisel, does the trick, but just be a bit careful, as the dge of those tappet covers aren't very substantial, and the edge houses an O ring, which is where the sealing occurs.
Take care not to punch through the edge of the cover, and into the head itself, as I have done.
