I think you proved it the coil
I would just get a new Known good 6v AC coil there only £13 or so Retail
Any half decent Mechanic should be able to order one I get mine from HiLevel but there loads of other trade suppliers who will have them all you need to know is 6v AC and the bolt spacing HiLevel have 6 different ones
