Hi Aidan.. The battery is nothing to do with the ignition system on either bike. It's AC powered just like the cdi system on 12 volters. (only 6v C90 had 6v battery ignition).
Fitting the battery and the bike starting must be coincidental.

Here's the complete ignition system wiring for C50/70 and C100.
