Hi Aidan. I'm running two 87cc pushrod engined bikes, and have encountered problems similar to those you are having.

It's a long story, but to cut to the chase, are the points possibly sparking twice on one revolution of the crank?

On my C200 it was a dodgy far east back plate/rotor assembly that was causing this.

In the second instance, I found it was frighteningly easy to put the points cam/rotor/thingy on 'on the cock' which gives the probs you indicate.

Evidence of this is get the thing running, (But it won't rev, right?) look at the bolt holding the points rotor on, is it spinning centrally? If not it's the setting in place of the points rotor.

We also found that by adjusting {opening/closing) the points with it idling, we could find a place where it would rev up as normal. However, when shut down it could be difficult to start, as the points will be 'out'. This at least suggests something is 'on the huh' boi! (As they say here in Suffolk!)

Hope this helps,

regards, Jim
