Hi Lads,

I've rebuilt a 1964 Honda 50 for a friend of mine.

The engine has been rebuilt as it was lying up for 30 years at the back of a shed.

Anyway it would not kick over but started with a push within 10 yards.

Took off flying with the choke on but the moment the choke is closed it dies.

When it gets warm it will splutter and not rev out, but will tick over fine.

Now the list of what I've done on the rebuild and checked since:

1. When I take the plug out it's very black / sooty like it's running really rich.
2. Carb have been cleaned and blown through.
3. Carb air adjustement is at 1 1/2 turns out but it does not matter what position it's at.
4. Spark is really strong like a welder (checked plug off head)
5. Timing is set (new points)
6. Valves have been checked (perfect, reground, set at time of rebuild)
7. Filters on fuel feed and plenty of fuel getting through
8. Float is fine and closing off feed from tank. (no height adjustment on them)
9. Needle is set at recommended height (changed with another bike no difference).
10. The manafold has a new O-ring on top / instant gasket on bottom

I don't think the jets could be worn as there are only around 4000 genuine miles on it.

Since that original list I think I can rule out the Carb as I swapped it with a running bike and no difference.

The plug is wet now and the bike is harder to start.

Checked the spark again and it's orange now not the bright blue it was.
Changed plug
Changed Plug cap

Do you think it would be the coil as I can get one on David silver for €23 if necessary.

Any help appreciated.
