Another possibility to add to the suggestions above is that it could be the coil breaking down.
A fine break in the winding can make contact enough for the coil to produce a spark when cold. However when it warms up a bit the break 'opens up' and the sparks go out the window. Allowing it to cool brings them back again.
It used to be quite common in the 'good old days' of magneto ignition but it can happen with just plain coils too.
