On our 'Race to Spain' Bogger's Innova was using more oil than the rest of us but we were all topping up every night. Seeing how little finning the cylinder and head has I'm amazed they run so well flat out. And they were ridden absolutely flat out all the way. Perhaps the gearbox casing helps to cool the oil. Incidentally the Citroen 2cv engine has a large oil cooler and none of the eleven cars/vans I've had have ever used any oil between 3,000 mile changes.
When my Innova 'lost' its drain plug and seized, once freed uses no more oil despite a rattle which could be piston slap or little end or worse. I've decided to ride it until it goes bang...
