hi geoff, i had the same problem with my piaggo hexagon, although taking all the pannels is a right pain, it dose give you a chance to do a thorough check on things you dont normaly see like electrical conections and cables, fuel lines etc, so haveing to remove the pannels is not such a bad thing. could prevent a future break down. Griz.
