I think the most pertinent point here is .....

Why are you doing all this work rather than sitting in a deck chair supping Carlsberg Export whilst directing junior about the finer points of where he is going wrong and why he can't use your precious tools?

It's what my Dad used to do anyway.

Then he would take mums Escort gearbox to bits and leave a note on it for me to put it back together and BTW there's a new clutch plate in the shed that should be used when refitting into the car.

I dunno what's fatherhood turned into
