As for the running rich Andy...
The choke butterflys DO stick on , due to the choke cable.
DON'T lube it as it has a nylon cover over the inner cable, that swells up if it is lubricated, they are only cheap.
Check that the choke is closing off fully.
The slide clip should be in the middle notch.
Pilot jet should be 1 & a 1/4 turns out from closed.
Check the air filter.
Another famous thing that new owners do, is to oil the speedo cable from top to bottom....
If you do this, the oil works its way up into the speedo clock & ruins it !
Any oiling, just at the wheel end....

Oil is an age old question...
Personally I use Silkolene Semi synthetic 10-40.
I & others do not use ny oil that has PTFE in / modifiers as they do IMHO mess up the semi auto clutch.
