Hi, most common fault like Bill said is the carbon bushes wear & spring damage or possibly starter relay switch in underseat bin check all connections are good. If still no joy ? test the starter motor directly to the battery positive

if it turns over the fault is in the relay and if it doesn't turn over the fault is in the starter motor .
Either way it sounds like a full strip down of the front & leg panels where you can also check the starter switch . Mine is an 08 year bike and touch wood I have had no problem except when the battery was flat and did not have enough charge to turn the engine over !

! have you experienced any prior problems of sluggish type starts !

! if so it could possibly be new battery time ? but at least you still have the kick start as backup in the mean time .
