It might be worth taking off the top end again ( barrel and head ). Take the rings off the piston and check the rings in the bore and the importantly the ring gap whilst in there. Dunno what the specs are but I think they are in the Haynes manual. Grind in the valves and fit new valve stem oil seals and rebuild, making sure all the 'O' ring seals are correctly located and not misaligned. Just a quick tip for you. Some people on this message board find that it helps, if working on an engine, to use a handy wheelie bin as a work surface.
