Not an expert and I suppose it depends on the compatibility of the new paint and the old. I would say use a polyurethane paint available in tins from boatyards (its the stuff that they paint narrowboats with)its tough and weather resistant. You can get it from vehicle paint suppliers too. Get 1/2 litre and do a trial patch. It may need two coats as the last stuff that I used was a bit thin. Suggest putting it on with a little roller. A lot of decorators use little sponge rollers now to put gloss on. I've painted a couple of cheap cars before using Dulux exterior gloss and had very good results. Regards. Bob.
