Dear Alan, I cannot imagine your pain, my heart goes out to you.
All bereavement will invoke that sense of your own mortality. It's absolutely natural.
It takes time for it to pass, but it will. When I see my old dad lying on the slab, I had been diving North Sea for 7 years. It struck me hard the risks I was taking, and struck me this is no dress rehearsal, this is it.
It was 8 months before I could get back in the water, but I did. Life goes on.
In the meantime, don't think too deeply about these things, cut yourself some slack, don't be hard on yourself wherever your thoughts may wander. It doesn't matter how tough you are, these knocks take time to heal, just accept that.
I would say, if you can afford to, keep the little bike for now. If it's ordinarily something that gives you pleasure riding, you may need that pleasure soon enough to give you a lift.
I hope time passes quick for you, it's the only thing that helps.
