I've tried all the weedkillers over the years even Tordon. The problem is getting it into the ivy plant. The waxy leaves just shed anything that you spray onto them. I have even resorted to grubbing around in the hedge bottoms to find the big roots then drilling them and filling the holes with glyphosate. The leaves go curly but the bu###rs still wont die. Last time I sprayed with petrol I didn't get as good results as the time before. I found one of the parraffin weedburners on a car boot. The scaffold tube size. The trick with these is to get the preheat coil really hot before you open the valve. If you don't then it becomes a flamethrower with 15 foot flame and the zip zipping noises that you hear on old war films. This gives the ivy something to think about. I only use it after rain to prevent the bottoms of the bushes catching fire. Big leylandii have a load of dead twigs and dry leaf bits lodged in their branches. Its quite impressive when one of these goes up. Regards. Bob.
