Gardening tip I learnt from my C90

For years I have been waging chemical warfare on the ivy that is trying to take over the garden. The thick wax coating on the leaves renders it immune to just about everything. I have found though that it doesn't like being sprayed with petrol. If you try this, and I don't recommend that you do ! then wear a good respirator and goggles and stay out of the spray. I think that people don't realise what bloody awful stuff petrol is. Also make sure that no'one is smoking nearby........ So petrol withers the leaves but the ivy comes back eventually. Trying to dissolve weedkiller in petrol doesn't work. Powder weedkiller doesn't dissolve in petrol and liquid weedkiller settles out as an aqueous layer at the bottom. A while ago we talked about the 90's cutting out in freezing weather due to any water in the petrol freezing in the carb jets. A suggested remedy for this was to add a small quantity of isopropyl alcohol to keep the petrol and water from seperating. So I've just mixwd a litre of petrol and liquid weedkiller together with the expected result. Added a tablespoon of isopropyl and shake and the weedkiller has gone into the petrol. Have fun. Bob
