If the new coil's making a spark on 6v DC it sounds like you've got the wrong coil.

6v C50 and C70 ignition system runs straight from the alternator at about 50-100v AC - totally independent of the 6v DC electrics.

Maybe you've bought a 6v C90 coil? 6v C90s have 6v DC ignition. The coils are not at all compatible with C50/70.

The coil needs to be made for a C50/70. A generic 6v coil will only work on a 6v C90.
