Ha,ha,you are a card Andy,you really are.As a matter of fact,I found the piece of paper from a couple of years ago( 
) with the route I would have taken if I was going alone:My home to Belper and then;
A517 to Ashbourne
A515/A50 to Uttoxeter
A518 to Stafford
A518 to Newport
A442 to Telford
A442 to Bridgenorth
B4364/A49 to Ludlow
A4113 to Knighton
A488 to Pennybont
A44 to Nantmel/Rhayader.....As it turned out we(me,Deano&Grizzer) just rode to Uttoxeter on the A50 and met John.S and followed him down.
Your route looks quite acceptable to me though.
