In the end the viscosity of waxoyl has put me off, difficult to apply and poor penetration seem to be issues. I have bought a spray tin of Dinitrol at £12 inc P+P which should be more than enough to do the bike. A lot of clasic car owners use it. It goes on thin and penetrates, stays thin under a harder surface coat. They actually do 2 products, the first one goes on thin and forms a surface firm enough that the second product sticks to and gives a much harder surface.
