Hi Ric,
Why would the hosting company be giving you grief about slow SQL. Surely that's their servers that are causing the problem and not anything your doing unless your writing the SQL scripts and designing the database and their not happy. If that's the case and if there is anything I can help with then I would like to offer my services. I'm probably a bit rusty but I used to be a database administrator along with lots of other title's in an old job where they sent me on great courses to exotic places such as High Wycombe on database admin courses and SQL optimization and crap.(with a Z it was an American company).
By the way the new site looks the job.
