To be fair to old Brits (1950s), yes, they did leak oil but by and large it was not on the scale of the mythology that has developed. The only really serious oil leak I remember was the Matchless/AJS pressed steel chaincase which was quite impossible to seal once it had been dismantled. The answer was to pour some hot melted tallow into the case and let it set before adding oil.
Anyway, what's a garage floor for, except to contain a pool of Castrol XXL?
