So the source of the oil leak was on the left had side of the engine where I had already noted some damage had taken place to the cover. On removing the remains of the cover the problem was soon apparent, the rear mounting screw had taken a right whack, bending it and cracking the crankcase.

Unfortunately this wasn’t the only problem lurking under the cover. The bike had been subject to a 428 chain upgrade, unfortunately the owner had run out of money after buying the chain and fitted it to the standard 420 sprockets which had resulted in it being able to move enough to rub through the end of the gearbox input shaft needle bearing housing, causing a second leak.

Removing the sprocket, had confirmed the bikes field bike status.

So after a cleanup it was strapped to the back of Big Mig and off to Nic (a member of our team) who welded up the crack and hole.
