The only time CCTV was any good to me was when I was watching two little scumbags, with bolt cutters, attempting to steal my bike live. But the one on lookout spotted me at the window, (he was out of shot, I wanted to see where) warned his friend and they ran/cycled off. I was in two minds whether to report it to the police and decided I would if only to let them know that thieves 'equipped to steal' were in the area. Surprisingly they arrived within minutes but didn't look at the CCTV tape but at the same moment a bloke came and told us where they'd gone to. The police went after them and caught one, the one with the bike, not the one with the bolt cutters, and brought him back to me in cuffs. He was sobbing his little heart out in the back of the van and I agreed to press charges so they took him away.
Later that day two women with the two would be thieves in tow, knocked at my door. I was expecting a confrontation but no, these mothers were horrified to know what their children had been up to. The boy had been let off with a caution and the mothers had decided that I was due a grovelling apology from them. They'd been told that it was a spur of the moment theft, to see if they could steal it but the police hadn't told them about the bolt cutters. I showed them the CCTV footage. I've never seen two women so angry. They beat sh*te out of them right there in front of me and I was invited to help myself to anything those kids owned, playstations etc. I declined.
