To me, Cameras are money making schemes for the varies "authorities" ignore the official spiel about road safety. Often its literally "Highway Robbery!

I remember the newspapers a couple of years ago reporting about a motorist (London area) before the courts charged with warning other drivers (flashing his lights) of the presence of a parked "road safety" camera van. go figure

I previously got caught 7yrs ago by police who were hiding behind bushes with their cameras! hardly the picture you would expect of the police serving the public is it? but mostly they seemed to have replaced that approach nowadays.

Those flashing warning road signs that monitor motorists speed showing their present speed and telling them to SLOW DOWN are good, but there is no money to be made in those.

A few years ago a local child got run over and killed on a 30mph stretch of a road near here. There was fuss made by the newspapers and a speed camera went up within a couple of months, however the parents did not wish a camera put up, they just wanted a Zebra crossing to be erected, that with plenty of visable warnings like belisha beacons etc but it went up anyway. I guess the authorities have made some money since!

ok I've finished my rant XD
