could be head gasket blowing into oil return. but sounds more like worn piston rings/bore (blow by) to me. as you are getting crank case compression and low combustion chamber compression and smoke. deffo top end prob. this looks like a realy cheap fix after that mileage. worth a punt but no gaurentee from me.
