well, im answering my own question. i fugured ive nothing to lose really, so dug the old innova out of the back of the shed, whipped the pipe off and fitted it to the injection model. it fits with one or two reservations. the clamp onto the head is ok as is the silencer bracket. but the centre bracket hole is slightly out of line by about 5mm, so im elongating the hole to fit it. the stub onto the head is slightly longer on the carb model pipe, but it still fits and the bike seems to run fine with it on, so, if anyone ever finds themselves in this position, then you know it will work. i only point this out because injection model pipes arent cheap and they are a bit thin on the ground.
