Honda dream EX5 speedo gone crazy

Hi people, my Honda Dream has a problem with it's speedo. Between 60 and 70kph, needle jumps to 100 and is acting erratically. I have took off the speedo cable and it seems to be fine. I thought someone might be able to help as I think it might be similar to the c90 cub in the uk (I have one in the uk) it is an old dream mk2. I have bought this bike in Thailand. Appreciate any advice
