Some helpful suggestions would be appreciated:
I have a vauxhall agila that I've had from new, and it's only done 57k miles.
Last week I went for a weeks camping in Scotland, and before I went I swapped the nearly new rear tyres on to the front, and put the part worn fronts on to the back.
Prior to this there hadn't been a problem.
On the motorway at 60+ I got a nasty vibration through the steering wheel, and I thought at first a wheel must be out of balance.
BUT.... it only happens when the road surface is rough or rippled. On a smooth surface it's perfectly OK
Also it isn't progressive, it will start suddenly at 60, or sometimes it can be OK at 70 untill the road surface changes!
I've checked the wheel nuts for tightness, the front dampers seem OK, and while it was fairly heavily loaded it was all evenly distributed.
I'm going to have the tyre balance checked on Monday, but I'm more inclined to think that the fresh tyres have highlighted an existing problem.
Any ideas please?
John
