Honda Vision
I’ve had mine now for 17 months, nearly 6000 miles & I thought some you may be interested to know how I’d gone on.
I was going to treat myself to a brand new Wave, however I saw that the Vision which was the same price.
I wanted better weather protection, more storage & tubeless tyres which can “repaired” with a moose kit so I went for the Vision.
You may wonder why because with a twist & go the engine, clutch transmission & swinging arm are one unit, they move up & down with the rear suspension, so you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that the handling would be atrocious, also it can be said that the “twist & go” is not as efficient as a geared bike because of the windage loss from the cooling fan the & friction loss of the belt drive.
However having hired many scooters whilst on holiday in the Greek islands I knew that the handling was not that bad & I felt that the engine losses would be offset by the variator keeping the engine at its most efficient power output & although the 110 is not quite as powerful as the Injection Innover & the Suzuki Address which I had owned previously the bike gets the gearing spot-on & she seems to do the same job. ie cruise along the Motorway at a steady 55mph or slipstream an HGV ay 60mph on the clock using less throttle.
Now she is well run in I would say the average fuel consumption is around 110-120mpg.
And the average fuel consumption on my previous bikes was in the region of:-
Honda C90 110-120mpg
Honda Innova (Carb) 120-130mpg
Honda Innova (inj) 140-150mpg.
Suzuki Vision 120- 130mpg.
I am “reet suited” (as they say in Lancashire) with this little bike. Honda seem to have got it right again. She’s got character & reminds me of my C90. The 14” wheels mean she’s a bit shorter, nice & light so easy to get in & out of the garage.
Alloy wheels, plastic body... easily keeps clean.
Access to the engine......... just remove the locker tub (4 bolts).
Flat floor...... to put the beer on.
5.5 litre tank, a good sized heated locker under the seat to keep your fish & chips warm. What more can an old rocker ask for?
However as a minus point the Vision does not have a kick start so if the battery goes flat you’re stuffed (a twist & go cannot be push-started). I keep an eye on the battery & carry a jump lead.
For us technical types here is a sketch of a variator:-
