Are Innovas soft?

I recently got a '04 Innova with 80000 miles on it. I didn't think they could do this sort of milage.
the big end had collapsed and it had been knocking previously.
Otherwise the bike actually looks in good order.
The local bike breaker said he thought they were poor bikes to begin with. Engines are scarce as they are very soft.
Is there any point in trying to track down an engine or repairing the one that's in it?
Are they as bad as he says? I'd like to break the 100000 miles on it.

Or should I just use her as a teasing bike for the stable of Cubs?
