Are the gaskets and/or O rings both sides of your carburettor in good condition? (inlet - from air filter, and outlet - to the engine). They should be, as air leaks where these gaskets are fitted can affect the smooth running of the engine - air leaks can weaken the fuel and air mixture which can increase engine speed.
Look for missing, torn, hardened, deformed, split when inspecting gaskets & o rings.
