This is our Plop Enduro bike. Its a Jincheng MIG ST70 or what most people will recognise as a Chinese clone of a Honda Chaly. We first raced it at RAF Odiham and then at Malory Park in the C90 class. But since then it was deemed that Miguel (for that is his name) needed to race in the open class. In the open class, you can have four gears, 110cc and a different carb. So over the last couple of months i've been doing the modifications. Its during this time that it occured to me that the Chaly is pretty unique in Honda's range of bikes to use the Honda horizontal OHC single engine.
Firstly the engine (barrel and cylinder) is partly inside the frame, limiting air flow arouund the engine and also making it pretty awkward to fit barrels and heads with larger cooling fins.
Secondly the Chaly uses the holes in the barrel used for lower leg shield mountings on a C90 as a third engine mounting. I've thought about this and I think the reason Honda did this was to use the engine to prevent torsional twisting of the frame as a result of the large aperature in it that houses the carb. Some people cut thsi thirds engine monting off the inside of the frame to fit large engines in.........probably not a great idea!
Thirdly the carb sits inside the frame and as far as I know is a unique Keihin design for the Chaly. To fit an after market carb a lot of people have a manifold that brings the carb out of the top of the frame. We kept our carb inside the frame but had to remove the choke mechanism to get it to fit in the narrow space.
