Could it be a rattle from the cam chain? I'm not familiar with the Innova, but if it's the same as the Cub, remove the tensioner and make sure the ball valve isn't sticking, then replace and prime it with a little oil before starting up. The seizure on stopping theory sounds pretty far-fetched.
