Found out it is an electric start model. To be absolutely honest it is a wee bitty daunting to see so many parts but I am quite confident about the build. I didn't find a side stand, were they optional on '02 models?

I am limited to what work I can do for a few days, just cleaning and painting and some electrical work. I want to leave it fairly bare until I have the cavity wax treatment finished. That will give me plenty of time to split the crankcases and check over the gubbins with a mind to later fitting a 4 speed box and possibly a stroker crank. Although I am buying a Lifan I want to keep the honda engine. I have a Yamaha quad frame (brand new) I was thinking of using to make a wee tadpole trike out of. The Lifan will be a bit underpowered for that but it would give me a start, see if I had made something decent that was worth buying a bigger engine for.

A question for the Lifan people, you know who you are 8) Should I spend the extra £6 and get an electric start Lifan and are they any more problematic to fit than the kickstart only engine.

The guy I bought the parts from did say it needed a new piston and cylinder head. The head looks fine to me and I reckon a first overbore is all it needs, plus a bit of paint. Will the standard Hammerite take the cylinder heat or will I have to buy some BBQ or something paint?

As for the piston it will never pist again

For some unknown reason an angle grinder has been used on the piston.
