How long should a chain & Sprocket last?

Hi Guys - I've always ridden shaft drive/belt drive bikes, and I'm wondering how long you might expect a chain and sprocket(s) to last?

Honda Innova 125cc. Owned since new a couple of years ago.
Absolutely meticulous about maintenance, oil changes and chain lubing.
We live on the Costa Blanca in Spain, so basically it never ever goes out in rain ('cos there isn't any here!), and there's no road salt or other muck to get onto/into the bike at all.

It doesn't get thrashed at all, we tootle around gently, and highway cruising is kept at about 80kms an hour, but it is almost always ridden two-up.

I've now done 12,900kms, and have needed to adjust the chain tension once, slightly, in that time.

Have just spray-greased the chain once again; and so far as I can see it still looks fine and dandy, no binding spots, seems to run nice and smooth.

So, a couple of questions for those who have chain-drive experience please: how long till it'll likely need changing; what are the signs to look for which tells you it's knackered; and do you need to change both front and rear sprockets at the same time?

Gracias Muchisimos!!
