Hello Cubbers,
I finally got it fixed. I took the stock carb off the rough C100 I bought. Dismantled it, managed to get new o rings from a seal shop I use and a mate made me a bowl gasket. Fitted it and all the problems went away. I put the new Taiwanese carb that was causing the issues on the rough C100 and it went too. Didn't ride it for long enough to find out if it was going to suffer the same issues as I experienced when the Taiwanese carb was fitted to my "good" C100.
I sold the rough C100 and made a couple of hundred dollars, so after all the messing about there was a happy ending. The message I've come away from all this is that don't use non genuine parts if you can possibly avoid it, and don't let your intuition cloud your diagnostic opinions.
Thanks for everyones help on this.
Cheers, Andrew
