If you have a hydrometer check the specific gravity of the electrolyte, fully charged it should be above 1.2, If it is low (1.1) replacing the electrolyte might give it a bit more life.
Another common problem is Sulphation but I have no experience trying to improve a sulphated battery however there are 2 possible solutions to extend the the battery life. One is exactly that a solution that you put in the battery and it should help dissolve the sulphate crystal build up, don't get an expensive shop bought solution, it is just a simple chemical I cannot remember, something like epsom salts or sodium bicarbonate whatever. The other thing I wouldn't bother buying is a reconditioning battery chatger but if you can borrow one why not try it.
