Fed up with batteries?

It's quite a surprise when you find technology has moved on, a few years back a good friend on the Dieselbike forum replaced his battery with a supercapacitor. It was a large affair but very light and sat nicely under the rear rack.
it held enough charge to start the bike after a week standing, if it was longer than this it would charge instantly from another 12v battery such as the car.
So my cubs both have tiny 12v 'fire alarm' type gell batteries, and even though they hold charge for a long time they will go flat and damage themselves if left unattended (I know, need to ride the bikes more often).
So unwilling to continue supporting Maplins profit margin in the lead acid department it's time to source an alternative.
Lo and behold NEC have kindly introduced a 5.5v 1 farad supercapacitor in a very small package:
String 3 together for 16.5v setup; that should be more than good enough.
Time to break out the solder.
