The bike is locked up inside every night but for the last couple of months cars in the street have been
broken into and scratched. My car sits right under a streetlamp right outside the house. This is
happening on Saturday nights so its obviously the same one or two brainless oiks getting pissed up
and going out for a bit of thieving. To shed light on the matter I wondered if my new all singing and
dancing phone could help. To this end I have installed an app called Lapse it pro. There is also a free
trial version. In the full app you can set the resolution required {720}. The frame capture rate {1
every three secs}. Scene mode {mono}. Zoom into the area around the car. Set the screen
brightness to 0%. And let it go. I have a 16 gig card in the phone so theres enough memory to last all
night. For a power supply a visit to the pound shop was required. Usb phone charger cable cut in half
shows the four wires. The red is +5v the black is earth, cut the other two away. Solder the wires to
either end of 5m of poundshop speaker cable. Poundshop camera tripod was purchased and a mount
for the camera made from a bit of scrap wood and superglue. The camera has a good view from the
bedroom windowsill. The app plays back about 8 hours of recording in ten minutes. It saves all the
photos in a file as jpegs. You can go into the file and look at / zoom into any photo. Hopefully there
will be enough light from the streetlamp. The app supports a good night mode. Rain on the
windowpane might be a problem. Hey Ho. Bob.
