My 90 was drinking lots of oil( no smoke though) I stripped it and found the bore within tolerance so put in a new set of rings and new valve guide seals, if I was abetting man I would say the seals had probably hardened and let oil past but after I fettled it the difference was great it used very little oil and ran a treat.
