Seriously, having been there myself, I do recommend the speed awareness course, even though it is more expensive than a fine (anything up to £120, depending on area).
The one I was on was well-run and informative, and I am quite sure I came out of it a far better driver than I was previously. You accumulate a lot of bad habits in 60 years' driving. And as Fuzz says, you avoid any insurance loading or a record on your licence.
