I never plug the camera into the computer.. I always shove the card in and cut / paste them into the 'my videos' folder.

The discs that come with the camera have a fairly decent & simple to use video editing programme on. Just drag & drop your clips into it from folder or straight from the card.
Once you've saved your edit it's dead easy to upload that to Youtube (just join Youtube then click the 'upload' button).
