Brand new Lifan 110 stuck in gear

Does anyone know why my new Lifan 110 would be stuck in a gear. I cannot change gear, checked the auto clutch adjustment fully anti-clockwise and turned back an eigth turn. I haven't touched the engine yet apart from checking the clutch adjustment and I removed the spark plug so I could turn over the engine by turning the back wheel, still has the shipping oil in it. It is an electric start if that makes any difference.
