At that age it most certainly has been painted in two pack. They are made from ABS which contains pigment, which fades, fades badly and quickly. I bought a brand new Mehari in Portugal back in '87, it was bright yellow. before you ask, yes it faded. I used to keep it covered up in a garage. I eventually {foolishly) sold it. They now command high prices, a company in the South of France, Cassis sell them, even 'new' ones. Apparently they're still being made in I believe Brazil with a 602cc motor or a 650 fuel injected one. Citroen even made a 4x4 version, originally for the French army
