These photos are my record of the first C90 weekend in Barmouth, Wales organised by Amie Hurlstone.
This is still my best Bimble of all because it had so many elements needed to be a successful C90 rideout weekend.
The town itself is quite charming with its beautiful sandy beaches and dunes. The facilities more than adequate in terms of supermarkets and cafes such as the 'Arousel Cafe' where Amie negotiated a good deal on a mass breakfast.
The Campsite ( a small farm on the north side of town), was booked exclusively for our meeting and incredibly inexpensive. It had a quaint Grade II Listed shower and toilet block with real wild birds flying inches above your head whilst taking your ablutions.
For this meeting Diesel Dave bought along his diesel motorbike (rarely seen) and some of the more trustworthy riders even braved a little go on it.
IOW Mike was on hand to make the necessary modifications to anyone's C90 petrol tank to enable them to get an extra few pence worth of fuel in when filling up. I was grateful to get mine done as that little extra can make all the difference when travelling a long way.
The weather all weekend was fantastic, making the scenery quite spectacular. You will see from the photos taken at Llyn Mwyngil at Tal-y-llyn how calm the lake was and what amazing reflections of the lush green hills in the background we had.
Then there was the narrow gauge train at Fairbourne that we had to give way to briefly, only to later race and overtake on our ride to Fairbourne Point, the other side of the water from Barmouth. This was followed by some lovely narrow winding roads up in the hills with great views back over Barmouth some 2 or more miles away. Every so often a closed gate would halt our procession requiring to be opened by the first man and closed by the last, with the 'drop off' system working to perfection.
To round off the day, Amie had sought permission from the harbor master for our group to ride the bridge over the Afon Mawddach back into Barmouth. So with a controlled and well monitored system of passage for safety, across we all went. A great experience to round off the ride, and this was just the 1st day!
More fun and frolics followed on day 2 as we headed north into the heart of Snowdonia.
